Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch is one player that New Orleans Saints’ fans wish they could forget, but unfortunately he is not going anywhere. In the 2011 NFC Wild Card game, Lynch ended the Saints’ season with the now famous “Beast Mode” touchdown run in which he stiff-armed and broke many tackles on his way to ending the Saints’ season. Fast-forward to this season and Lynch is yet again enjoying a very productive year for the Seahawks, and the Saints will see him again in the Week 13 Monday Night Football game.
Lynch has already carried the ball 208 times for 925 yards and nine touchdowns. Lynch’s nine rushing touchdowns are tied for second most in the NFL as he has a great knack of finding the end zone. The Saints’ defense will have their hands full with Lynch, but they are up to the challenge.
The Saints’ defense is the best it’s been in years and it has been a big reason for their success this season. The Saints are ranked 15th in the league in rush defense, giving up 111.9 yards per game which is not terrible considering how bad their defense was last season. Lynch rushes for an average of 84.1 yards per game, one of the best in the NFL.
The Saints’ defensive line must stuff the middle and force Lynch to go on the outside and from there, the Saints’ athletic edge rushers should be able to handle the rest. I know it is easier said than done, but the Saints’ defense is so much better this year and I really do think they can slow down Lynch.
This Week 13 matchup will be one of the best games of the season and whichever team wins could win the No. 1 seed in the NFC. The Saints will travel to a hostile environment in Seattle and one of their main priorities will be to slow down their old foe Lynch.
