In recent weeks, the New England Patriots have really struggled in their run defense, this was especially evident last week when the team gave up nearly 300 yards on the ground to RB Knowshon Moreno. The absences of both Tommy Kelly and Vince Wilfork are clearly a factor in this problem. While Chris Jones and Joe Vellano have shown flashes of excellence, they are both young and will have their ups and downs.

The Patriots, knowing this, added another body into the mix in DT Sealver Siliga. While he is young at only 23-years old, Siliga has raw ability and has drawn comparisons to for Patriots DT Kyle Love.

Siliga was added to the 53-man roster this week from the practice squad, likely due to the run-heavy approach that the Houston Texans love to implement.  He will compete for reps with Isaac Sopoaga, Jones and Vellano. The Patriots were smart to add another body to the mix this week on the defensive line given, the injuries they have had coupled with their struggles in stopping the run.

Ben Tate is a talented running back, and it cannot hurt to be extra prepared should the line struggle or someone gets hurt in the game. Even though he may not play much on Sunday, it is always good to have depth on the defensive side of the ball.
