Nick Foles Continues Stretch Of Brilliant Play As Philadelphia Eagles Hang On Against Arizona Cardinals
Nick Foles played mistake free football yet again as the second-year quarterback was surgical on this afternoon, adding three more touchdowns to his resume without throwing an interception yet again.
That gives him 19 touchdowns to zero interceptions on the season which is a staggering statistic. That number of touchdowns without throwing a pick is second all-time behind the legend himself, Peyton Manning, who completed a feat of 20 touchdowns and zero interceptions earlier this season.
Foles was fresh off of an NFC Player of the Month award, but many wanted to see him against a legitimate opponent in December to see what the kid was made of. He stood up to the pressure and prevailed as the Philadelphia Eagles hung on to defeat the Arizona Cardinals.
To paint the entire picture, late in the game Foles did make one egregious error. He threw blindly in the middle of the field while taking a sack which resulted in a pick, but it was wiped away by a penalty.
Foles lucked out there, but he has to know to eat the sack and live to fight another down. The Eagles’ defense also made plays when it needed to and the pass rush really got home.
This was a total team effort, but the Eagles need to do a better job of putting teams away. The offense had multiple opportunities, with short fields off of turnovers, no less to ice this game but failed to do so. They also didn’t take enough time off the clock and almost allowed the Cardinals to regain the advantage on the scoreboard. This young team is still learning on the job.
For now Foles did nothing to diminish himself in this one. He still looks like a true field general out there. This team will go as far as this young quarterback takes them.
