Turnover-Prone Ryan Fitzpatrick Continues to Crush Tennessee Titans’ 2013 NFL Playoff Hopes
The Tennessee Titans had a legitimate opportunity to make it to the 2013 NFL playoffs after holding the final AFC Wild Card spot at the end of Week 12. However, a huge loss to the Indianapolis Colts makes their attempts to retake the position extremely unlikely in the weeks to come.
The main reason that Tennessee lost the game against the Colts was the poor play of backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. Fans of the Buffalo Bills will tell you that when Fitzpatrick is on, he is on. However, when he starts making bad decisions, he keeps on making them. He threw into triple coverage for a pick twice against the Colts, and he repeatedly tried to fit the ball into tight windows that would have made a catch impossible.
Tennessee has a playoff-ready defense, but the Titans will not make the NFL playoffs with Fitzpatrick at the helm. The Titans need to plan for the future and pick a decent backup quarterback midway through the 2014 NFL Draft. If Jake Locker were to get hurt again next season, a rookie backup like Zach Mettenberger or Aaron Murray would be a lot better than turnover-prone Fitzpatrick.
The Titans have only truly lost one game to the San Francisco 49ers. Besides that loss, a few key special teams mistakes and Fitzpatrick’s inability to throw a pass to anyone wearing the same jersey as him are all that separate them from a much better record. Tennessee has to address their quarterback issues now, because another potential playoff season is about to be thrown away.
