Haters Should Leave Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco Alone
Anyone who has frequented YouTube for the past few years probably came across a video of an androgynous man named Chris Crocker that goes on a rant about how the media should leave pop star Brittney Spears alone. This will be my version, except mine will be written, less whiny, and about Baltimore Ravens QB and Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco.
Flacco parlayed an historic postseason run (11 TD, zero INT) into a lucrative new contract over the offseason (six years, $120 million). Immediately everyone said that he was overpaid. The Ravens had to pay him, though, because this is what the market determined. Quarterback desperate teams like the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills would have pounced on Flacco had he made it to the open market, and they could have possibly paid more than Baltimore did.
While Flacco has struggled and been inconsistent this year he is coming off two of his best performances of the year, which were wins over the New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers. These were huge games that the Ravens had to win to get back into the AFC wild card race. In the past few years Flacco has made a habit of stepping up in the big time games. Isn’t it worth it to have some stink-bomb games here and there knowing how clutch Flacco comes up when the stakes are raised? The answer is simple: Yes
The problem is with one word, though: “Elite”. This term gets thrown around way too much. As far as I’m concerned there are only four elite quarterbacks in the league right now and they are, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Aaron Rodgers. After those four you have a second tier of guys like Ben Roethlisberger, Eli Manning, Tony Romo, and Philip Rivers. Flacco belongs in that second tier category, which consists of good QBs that are capable of winning Super Bowls (Hello Big Ben, Eli and Joe) and guys you can build your franchise around. Aren’t guys like that priceless? Go ask the Jacksonville Jaguars.
If any of you are still hating on Flacco after reading this then please comment here or on one of my social media sites listed below. Leave him alone; leave Flacco alone.
