5 Baltimore Ravens Players That Need To Step Up In Week 14 vs. Minnesota Vikings

Evan Habeeb-USA Today Sports

The Baltimore Ravens came up with a huge win last Thursday over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The win put the Ravens into the final wild card spot in the AFC and still kept thems in contention for the AFC North crown. The Ravens will look to keep the momentum going against the last place Minnesota Vikings this Sunday. Before going over which five Ravens players need to step up the most this week, I'll go over how I fared in the last game.

There aren't many times for me to gloat, so I'll enjoy saying that I nailed it for the most part last week. The five players I listed that needed to step up against the Steelers were Joe Flacco, Jacoby Jones, Justin Tucker, Daryl Smith, and Lardarius Webb. Flacco had one of his best games of the year going 25-for-33 for 251 yards and a TD, and the numbers would have been better if not for a few drops. Tucker was probably the MVP of the game, nailing all five of his field goal attempts. The Matt Stover comparisons are out there, but Tucker has a much stronger leg so the sky's the limit as far as his career goes. Jones made some big plays, including a 73-yard kickoff return which could have been a touchdown had a certain coach not lost his placement on the field. The defensive guys (Webb and Smith) had decent games as well despite a lack of a pass rush.

The following five Ravens players will need to step it up this week if they hope to go on their first three game winning streak of the season. Enjoy the show.

5. Joe Flacco

This is an obvious choice here. Flacco is coming off of back-to-back good performances at home. He needs to keep the momentum going against a Vikings defense that gives up 30.5 points a game.

4. Torrey Smith

Is it just me, or does it feel like we're due for a monster Torrey Smith game? I'm talking 150 yards and two touchdowns with one catch going 50 plus.

3. Haloti Ngata

So apparently this Adrian Peterson guy is pretty good at the game of football. That being said, the Ravens' run defense will need to be at the top of its game to slow that beast down. It all starts up the middle, and a big game from Haloti Ngata (Get ready for the cliché) will give the Ravens a good chance at winning. See I can talk in clichés too, or as we say ESPN talk.

2. Terrell Suggs

Oh Terrell Suggs, where for art thou? It's about time our favorite crazy man gets sack happy again. The key is getting "deer in the headlights" Matt Cassel in third and longs.

1. Jimmy Smith

Has anyone been more consistently solid than Jimmy Smith? Dude has been killing it recently. Now that Smith is finally living up to his first round potential he could be instrumental in shutting down a current first round pick in Cordarelle Patterson.
