The Cincinnati Bengals have as talented a team from top to bottom as there is in the league. The defense is loaded with play makers like the league’s leading tackler in Vontaze Burfict who punishes offensive players over the middle and is one of the premier young defensive talents in the league.
They also feature one of the game’s premier offensive players in wide receiver AJ Green. He is a physical freak of nature that has speed to burn as well as size in the red zone. He is a scary mismatch for any defender.
Many wonder what has held this team back. It certainly isn’t talent. Perhaps it may be time to look at the quarterback. While Andy Dalton is a solid starter he is not one of the NFL‘s elite talents at the position. Head coach Marvin Lewis still has not won a playoff game despite being afforded a team stacked with talent after coaching the Bengals for over a decade.
That number is totally unacceptable. The real question is can this team come out of the AFC? There is no doubt they have the talent to. As I stated earlier they may have the most talented 53 man roster in football.
Something is holding them back, though. Dalton needs to take that next step to thrive in January because simply making the playoffs is no longer acceptable to this franchise. They have to do something once they get there.
Making noise in January is a must for this team, and Lewis’ future depends on it. It is possible Dalton’s may as well. There is a lot riding on the success of the Bengals in the postseason.
