5 Keys To Victory For Philadelphia Eagles vs. Detroit Lions

John Geliebter-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles are currently tied for first place with the Dallas Cowboys and face a huge tilt with the Detroit Lions. The Eagles control their own destiny right now, and if they win out they guarantee themselves a playoff spot.

Remember, they square off with the Cowboys during the season's final week. It is looking more and more likely that particular contest will be for all the marbles. In order to make that meaningful the Eagles have to take care of business.

That starts Sunday against the Detroit Lions. This is certainly no easy feat as the Lions feature as explosive of an offense as there is in football and look to be just hitting their stride. The Eagles' offense no doubt will have to be clicking on all cylinders in what is shaping up to be a real shootout.

This may be the biggest challenge of the season for the defense. They have to stay disciplined and not allow big plays consistently. They have done a good job of doing that all season. The defense did a solid job of taking Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald out of the game last week so it's clear this defense is capable of taking away the opposition's top weapon. Calvin Johnson, the game's best receiver will be an even bigger test.

This is a big one. It seems like every time these two teams play it is a bizarre affair featuring either a lopsided game or a strange sequence of events. It certainly doesn't lack for entertainment. Let's take a look at 5 keys to victory for the Philadelphia Eagles vs. the Detroit Lions.

5. Pass Rush Must Get To Matthew Stafford

The Philadelphia Eagles' pass rush -- and especially Trent Cole -- has come on in recent weeks. If the Eagles want to win this game they will need to get to Matthew Stafford consistently.

4. Calvin Johnson Must Be Contained

Calvin Johnson is the game's best receiver. He won't be shut out of a game. The Eagles, however, need to contain him and keep him from controlling and dominating the football game if they hope to win.

3. Key In On Reggie Bush In The Running Game

Reggie Bush has had a resurgence with the Detroit Lions. He is equally threatening on the ground and in the passing game. The Eagles will need to pay attention to where Bush is at all times and stop him from breaking out on Sunday.

2. DeSean Jackson Needs A Huge Perfomance

Bob Stanton-USA TODAY Sports

DeSean Jackson recently passed the 1,000 yard mark on the season, and there are still four games left. He has had a monster year in Chip Kelly's offense and is due for a monster game this week. The Lions' secondary is awful, and Jackson will need to be a big part of the offensive game plan if the Eagles hope to win a shootout.

1. LeSean McCoy Needs To Break Out

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

LeSean McCoy has been quiet in recent weeks, but he is due for a big game at home against a suspect Lions defense. McCoy will need to be heavily involved in the game plan in both the running and passing game if the Eagles hope to pull out the home victory.
