Andy Reid did a fine job in keeping his Kansas City Chiefs up for their NFL showdown on Sunday in a 45-10 win against the Washington Redskins, but he has to do it for three mores games if the Chiefs are going to enter the playoffs with enough momentum to get something significant accomplished.
After a 9-0 start, the Chiefs faltered in three games, albeit two of those losses were to the Denver Broncos. Obviously the Chiefs were in danger of losing the momentum they picked up in their undefeated start, and will very possibly have to take a wild card spot into the playoffs since the Broncos won’t be easy to move out of that top spot in the AFC East.
Building a 38-10 lead at halftime helped the Chiefs gain momentum in a hurry. The Redskins were struggling, but the Chiefs weren’t going to be fussy on who they beat. They badly needed a win.
Reid has to keep his team in the proper focus for the next three games, which include two road tests at the Oakland Raiders and the San Diego Chargers, plus a home game with the Indianapolis Colts. It’s never easy to advance deep into the playoffs by way of the wild card route, but it’s been done frequently in the past. Wild card teams that enter the playoffs playing well usually have great success, and that needs to be Reid’s goal with Kansas City. The three-game losing streak is over, and now it’s time for a four-game win streak heading into the playoffs to make the Chiefs a bona fide Super Bowl contender.
