LeSean McCoy exploded on this snowy afternoon. McCoy set a Philadelphia Eagles‘ franchise record with 217 rushing yards, and he did it in snowy, frigid conditions no less. McCoy was simply dazzling in the cold.
Some questioned what McCoy’s effectiveness might be like in conditions like this, but that seems like a stupid question now. McCoy looked unstoppable. He made dazzling cut after dazzling cut, and his monster game put him ahead of Adrian Peterson as the league’s leading rusher.
There are some runs that only McCoy can make, and we saw quite a few today. Credit also has to go to the offensive line, who provided gaping holes in the running game as the Eagles front five dominated the line of scrimmage.
This was also a great win for the Eagles. They now take control of the NFC East and are in first place. They control their own destiny. Eagles head coach Chip Kelly has these boys playing extremely hard on both sides of the ball.
The defense also came to play today. They essentially only gave up eight points, as two of the Detroit Lions scores came on special teams. They continued their trend of giving up 21 points or less, as they have now done it in nine straight games.
The Eagles are the hottest team in the NFC right now, and they are playing their best football in December, as all contenders do. If they keep getting stifling play from the defense, good, solid quarterback play, and the dynamic ability of the league’s best back, there is no telling where the road ends for these Eagles.
