New Orleans Saints: Face Dual-Threat Quarterback in Week 14
The New Orleans Saints will square off against division rival Carolina Panthers in Week 14 of this NFL season. This game features the top two NFC south teams that are both 9-3 and fighting for the division lead. Furthermore, this game was flexed into the Sunday night time slot so to say this is a big game would be an understatement.
For the Saints and Panthers this game could be the difference between getting a top seed in the playoffs and fighting for a wild card spot. Last week the Saints were torched by Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks and this week Panthers quarterback Cam Newton offers a similar threat to Wilson. Newton and Wilson are two of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the NFL, and hopefully the Saints learned from last week otherwise Newton could burn them too.
At 6-foot-5, 245 pounds Newton is a huge quarterback and has all the skills you look for in a franchise QB. Newton has a big arm and can really throw it down the field with precision. However, the one thing that makes Newton so special is his ability to take off and run. This season Newton has carried the ball 82 times for 447 yards and six touchdowns.
The Saints have to be ready for Newton’s athleticism, and in some instances it will be a case of “pick your poison” for the Saints’ defense. This game is big for both teams as the regular season draws to an end. If the Saints can slow down Newton and make him one-dimensional then they should dominate. However, if the Saints let Newton do whatever he wants they could be in for another long night.
