Marlon Brown coming into this season had a lot of pressure on him with veteran Anquan Boldin departing the Baltimore Ravens in the offseason via trade. A lot of people thought that the new pieces at wide receiver would cause trouble for Joe Flacco. Brown is certainly proving that isn’t the case as he leads the Ravens with six touchdown catches this season.
Brown has been nicked by injuries this season, but he saved his best effort to date for Week 14 as came up with a beautiful touchdown catch with four seconds left as the Ravens won a thriller against the Minnesota Vikings 29-26. Brown had seven catches for 92 yards to go along with the late touchdown catch.
“You’re in complete shock,” Flacco noted of how he was feeling during the game via Baltimoreravens.com. “Rather than low, you get pissed [thinking], ‘Are you kidding me? How did this happen?’ You go take the field and see what you can do.”
Brown is a great gem, and I believe that he helps speed up the process for the Ravens at the wide receiver position going forward. With all of the struggles the Ravens have had on offense this year, the wide receiver position isn’t one of them.
Opposite of Brown, Ravens veteran wide receiver Torrey Smith is about to top 1,000 yards for the first time this season, and it would become the first time in the Ravens’ franchise history that a receiver drafted by the organization would top 1,000 yards receiving ever.
The wide receiver position, which was once thought of as a weakness for the Ravens, is now one of their strengths.
