Is Matt Elam’s Smack Talk Of Calvin Johnson Good Or Bad For Baltimore Ravens?
Matt Elam thinks that Calvin Johnson is over the hill.
The Baltimore Ravens‘ rookie safety is preparing for the high-powered Detroit Lions‘ offense this week, but apparently he’s not worried about the team’s best player. On Tuesday, Elam was asked about the powerful “Megatron” and has this to say about No. 81:
“He’s pretty old, so I don’t know how physical he’ll be,” Elam said. “He’s a big guy, but he’s older.”
Old. Maybe Elam doesn’t understand that Johnson is record in the NFL with 12 receiving touchdowns and is also ranks second in receiving yards with 1,348 yards on the season. Well, that’s one way to get in Johnson’s head because the 28-year-old wide out definitely hasn’t heard the that one before. While this may be a great tactic by Elam, it’s possible that the rookie safety’s strategy will totally backfire. I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if Johnson exploded on Monday night for two touchdowns and 100 yards receiving like he’s done so very often.
Baltimore players have a right to talk trash considering the Ravens are the reigning Super Bowl champions, but a rookie like Elam isn’t doing anyone any favors by singling out the best wide receiver the NFL has seen in years — perhaps ever! Nonetheless, Elam will have the last laugh if he can walk the walk and help the Ravens leave Ford Field with a big-time victory.
