Jacksonville Jaguars' Cecil Shorts III: Can he be Trusted Against Buffalo Bills?

The Jacksonville Jaguars could have their best wide receiver out for Sunday’s contest against the Buffalo Bills.

Cecil Shorts III has been troubled by a groin injury in recent weeks and even though he’s listed as questionable by the Jags to face the Bills in a game where Jacksonville will look to extend their recent winning streak. If he suits up — something that’s quite likely given the fact that he practiced on a limited basis on Friday — he will be heavily targeted against a defensive unit that has had trouble with stopping receivers all season long.

The big question is his health. His health could affect his performance if he’s heavily targeted and unable to perform at his usual level.

Based on his recent performances, there’s not much to worry about. Shorts III has topped the 60-yard-mark in two of his last three games and he has found the end zone in the last two contests. However, this week was the only one where he wasn’t able to practice until late in the week, and that could hurt his chances on Sunday.

The Jags offense has been on a roll in recent weeks and if Shorts III can’t go, Ace Sanders will probably take his role. But if Shorts III is able to suit up for the game — something that might end up being a game-time decision — he needs to be trusted to perform. He has a favorable matchup against a weak secondary that could allow him to shine if given enough chances.
