Key Wins/Losses in AFC Present Baltimore Ravens with Challenge
With the win over the New England Patriots in dramatic fashion, the Miami Dolphins have once again placed the pressure on the Baltimore Ravens to maintain the final Wildcard spot. Can the Baltimore Ravens walk into Ford Field and walk out with a win? Will the Ravens run the table in December to face potentially the Indianapolis Colts?
The Ravens have been a down the stretch type team, going 15-9 in December since John Harbaugh took over in 2008. The problem with that stat is that four of those nine losses came in December of 2012. One year removed from the Cinderella story Super Bowl run and victory, the Ravens’ 2012 December didn’t matter much. In fact, they had already secured a playoff berth as well as the AFC North giving them a home playoff game and benching Joe Flacco by the final game last year.
This year is different and yet somewhat similar. Around this time last year, there were many doubters of the Ravens’ ability to do anything with all of the injuries they sustained earlier in the season and in this season it is the same situation. Those same doubters were out talking about the Ravens being hindered by roster changes and injuries early on in the season.
The defense has been performing great as of late and now with Jacoby Jones and Dennis Pitta back healthy, the offense now has the potential to “go hard” these next three games. This team has been through the trials, and the difference is that now with the loss of the Cincinnati Bengals to the Pittsburgh Steelers, they have their eyes set on the divisional crown and a playoff home game against what looks like will be the Kansas City Chiefs.
To say that Baltimore is in control of its own destiny can now be a true statement. If the Ravens win out they will win the AFC North. However, if they lose just one game, they could potentially lose any chance of making the playoffs. There is no middle ground here folks; it’s either be great or go home early for the Ravens. What will it be for the defending Super Bowl Champs?
