Up-And-Coming Players Who Could Break Out

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

The NFL season is just about over. It is already Week 16 and many fans are probably wondering where the season went. There have been many players who have stepped up their game this season, whether if those players are veterans or first-timers in the league. For the purposes of this article, we will look at five up-and-coming players who could break out in Week 16.

Two players on this list arguably already broke out. However, the Washington Redskins quarterback is still new to the whole starting thing and I think he will have a great game for a second straight week.

The other player who has arguably broken out had a great rookie season, but has been very disappointing basically the entire year. This player did have arguably his best game of the season last week, but it was nothing compared to what he did last year. We will get to those two players in the slides to come.

The other three definitely are not the best on their team, but they could show their worth this week or that is at least what I am predicting.

It’s never easy predicting a break out performance. Sometimes it is just dumb luck, rather than being an NFL guru. With that in mind, it would not surprise me if one or more of these players did not actually have a break out performance. Time will tell on that one.

Still, these five are my picks for up-and-coming NFL players who could break out in Week 16.

Kirk Cousins, Washington Redskins

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Kirk Cousins is one of the players who arguably had a break out game last week. He managed to throw for 381 yards and three touchdown passes. He also had two interceptions. Not bad for a player that has been riding the bench behind RGIII.

I think Cousins will at least match that performance against the Dallas Cowboys and will have fans wondering if he should be the man for the job in Washington.

Denarius Moore, Oakland Raiders

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

This is Denarius Moore’s third season in the NFL. He has had a decent career so far, but not an amazing one. His best game of the season came back in September, when he had 124 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Moore has not had a 100-yard game since, but I am predicting that to change this weekend.

Matt McGloin, Oakland Raiders

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

I am going with the notion that Matt McGloin will be the starting quarterback for the Oakland Raiders this weekend. Him starting could lead to a big game for Denarius Moore.

McGloin threw for 297 yards and two touchdowns last weekend, but he also had four interceptions. I am going to say McGloin will put up similar numbers, but he will get those interceptions under control.

A strong finish for McGloin could earn him a starting job next season.

Trent Richardson, Indianapolis Colts

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

I am sure Indianapolis Colts fans thought they struck gold when Trent Richardson joined the team. That has been far from the case so far, as Richardson is having a very disappointing season compared to last year.

Richardson is the other player who arguably already broke out, but that has not been the case this season.

He rushed for 64 yards last game, which was his most of the season. I think he will be even better in Week 16. By better, I mean he will rush for 100 yards and show his worth once again.

Edwin Baker, Cleveland Browns

Ron Schwane-USA TODAY Sports

Edwin Baker finally got to take the field last week and he was pretty good to say the least. Baker rushed for 38 yards and one score. He also had 46 yards receiving. That should earn him some more playing time in Week 16. However, I am predicting him to do much better.
