Can Miami Dolphins Make Noise In AFC?

The Miami Dolphins are getting hot at the right time and currently sit at 8-6 just outside the AFC playoff picture. The reason for the turnaround has been the improved play of Ryan Tannehill.

He has taken a major step from his first to second season having thrown for nearly 4,000 yards and 23 touchdowns. Tannehill did not have a ton of weapons last season, and he really lacked someone to stretch the field. The Dolphins as an organization made a concerted effort to change that.

They went out and broke the bank for the speedy Mike Wallace. Wallace was just what the doctor ordered for Tannehill. He has been making big plays in the passing game as he and Brian Hartline have formed a solid duo at the receiver position.

Charles Clay has also turned into quite the weapon at tight end as he has come out of nowhere to have a solid year with nearly 700 yards receiving and six touchdowns. The emergence of a solid tight end has worked wonders for Tannehill and the Dolphins’ passing game.

I would be remiss if I didn’t talk about the Dolphins’ defense. They have turned into a more than solid unit as well. Cameron Wake and Olivier Vernon are beasts off the edge. Brent Grimes has proved to be invaluable as a veteran corner in the back end in his first season in Miami. He has also been a ball hawk with four picks.

This Dolphins team has the goods to make a potential playoff run if they get in. A hot young quarterback, dangerous weapons in the passing game, and a fierce defense make this a team to watch out for in the final month of the season and perhaps beyond.
