For all of the New York Giants‘ struggles in 2013, one player has lived up to his end of the bargain — Victor Cruz. Unfortunately, the 5-9 Giants have disappointed so many fans this season that Cruz’s 998 yards receiving have gone unnoticed. Also, New York doesn’t exactly erupt over wide receivers that haven’t caught a touchdown since September 29th!
Cruz’s decent season came to a close on Thursday as the Giants’ star wide receiver was placed on injured reserve after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. This isn’t excellent news for Giants fans, yet the one good thing that is going to come from Cruz’s injury is that it gives second-year wideout Rueben Randle a great opportunity. Randle and Cruz hope to be partners for years to come as both are under contract until 2016 at the earliest.
However, Randle has a lot to prove before the Giants can invest in him like they did with Cruz earlier in the year. More importantly, Randle is set to fill the shoes of Hakeem Nicks, who is a free-agent to be that has definitely worn out his welcome with the New York management. Hopefully, Randle can shine in Week 16 as he will be handed a starting role for the just the fourth time in his career.
So with Nicks already packing his bags and Cruz on the sidelines with an injury; you can bet that Giants’ general manager Jerry Reese will have his eyes glued on Randle.
