Although the Atlanta Falcons have been pretty unlucky this year with devastating injuries and heartbreaking losses in the most emotional way possible, room for optimism is growing because defensive end Jadeveon Clowney will fall to the Falcons.
Even though I stated in one of my earlier articles that the Falcons’ chances of landing one of the best prospects to come out of the college ranks was slim to zero after defeating the Washington Redskins, hope has risen due to the four teams currently ahead of the Falcons are in a dire need of a franchise quarterback.
At the moment, the Falcons hold the No. 5 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, with the Houston Texans at No. 1, St. Louis Rams No. 2, Oakland Raiders No. 3 and Jacksonville Jaguars at No. 4, three out of the four teams listed will be in search for their franchise quarterback.
At the top of the pile, the Texans like the Falcons came into the year favored to make it to the Super Bowl. Instead of being one of the elite teams, they have had a nightmare and seem to be unable to wake up. The Texans will most likely be looking to take a quarterback, especially with Matt Schaub most likely losing his job forever.
With the second overall pick, the Rams are one of the only teams of this group that does not need a quarterback … necessarily. Sam Bradford is their guy, and with that being said, the Rams may bypass Clowney because they already have two excellent defensive ends on their team.
The Raiders hold the No. 3 pick in the upcoming draft and will most likely looking to draft a franchise quarterback. The Raiders need a franchise passer and will not hesitate to take one with their pick.
With the fourth pick overall, the Jaguars are without a doubt in search for their future quarterback, as Blaine Gabbert has been a huge disappointment ever since they drafted him. Instead of progressing every single year, Gabbert has found a way to go backward and continues to show that he is not a franchise quarterback at all.
That being said, Clowney should fall to the Falcons, as they will be searching for someone to give them a pass rush and help revamp a defense that has been gashed by every single team this year. While most teams will be searching for their future quarterback, this will allow the Falcons to have a really good chance of landing one of the most dominant players in the country.
