Heavy Dose of Frank Gore in Order for San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football
The San Francisco 49ers haven’t had much that they’ve done consistently on the offensive side of the ball in the 2013 NFL season. Colin Kaepernick and Anquan Boldin began the year looking like juggernauts, but then quieted down. Vernon Davis has also had his ups and downs this season and even Frank Gore has seen his workload fluctuate.
After being their workhorse for much of the season, he saw his carries dip quite a bit not too long ago. From week 10 to week 13, Gore averaged only 14.3 carries per game, which didn’t really allow him to have the success that he’s capable of having.
In weeks 14 and 15, though, Gore was once again rightfully heavily featured in San Francisco’s offense. Over the two games the running back combined for 196 yards on 39 carries, though he failed to grab a score in either game. Though he hasn’t gotten into the end-zone over the past two weeks, week 16’s game-plan for the 49ers facing off with the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football should feature Gore once again.
Not only has Gore been the best offensive player for San Francisco this season, averaging over four yards per carry, but the Niners are also up against a pretty terrible run defense in Atlanta. The Falcons have been burned by the run all season, allowing 131.4 yards per game which is just the 29th ranked rushing defense in the NFL this year. That’s definitely an area where San Fran and Gore should look to attack.
Because of the 49ers’ defense, I don’t expect the Falcons to have much success on Monday night anyway. However, if San Francisco comes in committed to giving the ball to Gore and letting him run, this game could get out of hand in favor of the Niners pretty quickly.
Gore has been one of the best running backs of the past decade and the 49ers plan to give him plenty of carries this week against the Falcons. Fans looking to attend this game should be sure to check out 49ers Tickets here.
