After the Atlanta Falcons rookie safety started his first career game in place of the injured Thomas DeCoud against the Washington Redskins, Zeke Motta missed practice due to a neck injury that may force him to miss their next game.
Motta is part of the youth movement that coach Mike Smith and his staff seems to be trying to develop. In the game, Motta registered a total of six tackles and had couple of nice plays. He was already dealing with a broken finger on his right hand, but he was able to play through it with a cast. According to Smith, it seemed like the rookie hurt it during Thursday’s practice and it got worse overnight.
With Motta out, the Falcons are very fortunate that DeCoud has been cleared to not only participate in practice, but is healthy to play against the San Francisco 49ers.
The Falcons’ secondary has been banged up throughout the year, with their best corner Asante Samuel playing hurt pretty much the entire season. As Motta tries to recover from his recent injury, the Falcons will no doubt receive a boost when DeCoud makes his return.
