After leading the Dallas Cowboys down the field in a game-winning drive in Week 16, Tony Romo received worst possible news. According to Adam Schefter, Romo’s back injury that occurred late against the Washington Redskins will force the quarterback to miss the rest of the season. This is horrible news for the Cowboys ahead of a must-win game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

In Week 16, Nick Foles and LeSean McCoy led the Eagles in a 54-11 blowout victory over the Chicago Bears. Simply put, the Eagles are clicking on all cylinders while the Cowboys barely defeated the Redskins and crawled into this winner take all Week 17 matchup.

Romo was the Cowboys’ only chance to take down the streaking Eagles. Now with his season-ending back injury, the Cowboys have no chance at defeating the Eagles in Week 17. The Eagles’ offense is too strong to be stopped by a mediocre Cowboys defense. In the last two weeks, the Cowboys blew two double-digit leads, and the same could occur the same against the Eagles.

However, I do not see anyway the Cowboys take an early lead over Philadelphia. Backup QB Kyle Orton is set to start, and if you think Romo is horrible just wait until you watch Orton play Sunday night. In the last two years, Orton has played only three games, so the pressure will definitely be on him.

The Cowboys have a horrific Week 17 record historically, and it seems like this year’s Week 17 will once again end in disappointing fashion. However, this time Romo cannot be blamed for the loss.

In the end, this Week 17 looked liked it was going to be a great rivalry game to watch. However, with the latest Romo injury news, the Cowboys are doomed and will not reach the playoffs yet again.
