Every year around this time, NFL fans are intrigued to see who got into the Pro Bowl, and many show frustration over deserving players that they feel were left out.  For New England Patriots fans, there were a few players that could arguably fit that description. They included the likes of Chandler Jones, Devin Mccourty, Stephen Gostkowski and Julian Edelman.

For Edelman in particular, many fans took to social media in the aftermath of the results to express their displeasure with his lack of Pro Bowl votes. After all, Edelman has been spectacular this year. He has been firing on all cylinders with Tom Brady, and has more than served as an adequate replacement for Wes Welker this season.

If that is the case, you may be wondering why he doesn’t deserve to be a Pro Bowler this year. The answer actually has little to do with Edelman himself. It has more to do with the incredible receivers around the league this year.

In almost any other year, Edelman would be an automatic Pro Bowl lock with 96 catches for 991 yards and six touchdowns. Unfortunately for him, each of the receivers that made the Pro Bowl this year surpassed those stats and have gained immense respect from the fans compared to Edelman.

In case you were not aware, the players that edged him out were; Antonio Brown, Dez Bryant, Josh Gordon, A.J. Green, Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson, Brandon Marshall and Demaryius Thomas.

Although he has had a fantastic season both as a punt returner and as Brady’s go-to receiver, the voters made the right call in keeping Edelman out of the Pro Bowl this year strictly looking at the numbers between the players who made the cut and his own.
