Brandon Marshall isn’t doing sit-ups in his driveway, but that might be what’s next for the Chicago Bears‘ wide receiver.
Apparently, Marshall has been watching a few too many Terrell Owens highlight tapes on YouTube. After a gut-wrenching loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 17, the Bears’ top wideout took to the podium and made a prediction for the ages when he was asked about Jay Cutler‘s future in the Windy City:
“Jay will be back. All the stories for the offseason, you guys can put that at the bottom — ‘Brandon said Jay will be back.’ Just like I said Jay will be back from the groin injury.”
So there you have it: Marshall is a football player by day and genie by night. It make sense for Cutler and Marshall to have such a close bond, yet No. 15 really has no business sticking his neck out like this and stirring the pot in such grand fashion. And just when you thought Marshall’s campaign for Cutler couldn’t get any stronger he goes all Terrell Owens and throws out this gem of a quote:
“He’s a heck of a player. That’s my quarterback.”
Now, there is a fine line between having love for a teammate and being a distraction. Marshall is in grave danger of letting his affection for Cutler get in the way of the business side of the NFL. Fortunately, the offseason has just begun, which means the Bears’ drama is sure to heat up over the next few months.
