What a season it has been for the Carolina Panthers, coming from a 1-3 record to finish the season at 12-4 and win the NFC South, jumping past the struggling New Orleans Saints. It’s been a fun ride, and these Panthers aren’t done just yet.
Much of the success from Carolina has been due to their dominating defense that has only gotten better as the season went on. Whatever proves their fate, their defense looks like it could be the most solid unit in the entire NFC, though severely underrated and less talked about than others. However, they could not have had this finish without a certain quarterback they call “Super Cam.”
Cam Newton led his Panthers to a close victory over the Atlanta Falcons, thus wrapping up the division like I said before. After the game, Fox Sports reporter Erin Andrews asked Newton what he and his teammates plan to do next weekend, asking him, “What will you do next weekend, will you watch (wildcard weekend)?”
Newton responded wisely by saying, “Get better.”
The third year pro handled that question flawlessly, as he should. He is not concerned about who his Panthers play, saying that he just wants to get better as well as to get his number one target Steve Smith healthy and back on the field. Smith had a great week of practice, but Carolina had the playoffs in mind when resting him.
Now that the Panthers have the division locked up, all that’s left to do is wait and, like Newton said, get better for whoever they may be playing come the second round of the postseason. Come two weeks from today, these Panthers could be even one more step closer to their first ever Super Bowl victory.
