What a day it was this afternoon in Lucas Oil Stadium for Indianapolis Colts wide out T.Y. Hilton. The second-year receiver had a career day in front of the home crowd to lead the Colts to a 30-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Hilton finished with a career-high 11 receptions for another career-high 155 yards.
Jacksonville had no answer for him today. Hilton can thank his other receiving threats for that, as I’ve been saying over the past two months that his production would only go up if someone else stepped up.
Since the benching of Darrius Heyward-Bey and the emergence of Griff Whalen, Da’Rick Rogers and LaVon Brazill, Hilton has been able to get open more. Teams can no longer shift double coverage on Hilton and blitz more guys than normal as Whalen, Brazill and Rogers will beat them.
These guys have even allowed Coby Fleener to come up big as the entire complement has made this Colts team tough.
Since the emergence of the help, Hilton has 24 catches for 286 yards over the past three weeks. He has games of 11, five and eight catches respectively the past three weeks.
If they can keep this up, then the Colts are a front-runner to make the Super Bowl. This offense is very hard to stop now, as they have so many weapons. If they chose to defend the others, then Hilton–as shown today–will go off.
The Colts are in a good spot entering the post season.
