Pittsburgh Steelers Should Be Proud No Matter If They Make Playoffs Or Not

Jason Bridge-USA TODAY Sports

When you start a season 0-4, there is almost no hope of a team to have a successful season. The Pittsburgh Steelers should do the exact opposite.

Knowing that an 8-8 record is an average record, the fact that they will not have a losing season should give this team promise. Even more so, this team had lost their first four games and six of their first eight games, but they never gave up and strung together win after win. It will be painful if they end up missing out on the postseason, but there is no need to be discouraged, because this Steelers team will be a formidable opponent come 2014. It is always a challenge making the playoffs, and the slow start to the season was unfortunate. It must be upsetting missing the playoffs for a second straight year with how well this franchise is and the pride that they have.

If they do make the playoffs, however, it will perhaps be the most remarkable turnaround that will not be ignored. It is very rare for a team to start a season 0-4 and make the playoffs. In fact, only the 1992 San Diego Chargers made the playoffs after starting the season with that record; they went on to win 11 of their final 12 games to win the division at 11-5. So, there have been some crazier things that have happened. The Steelers have also been in a situation where they needed to win and get a lot of help. This happened in 1989 when they beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and got the help they needed.

The saying goes that anything can happen on any given Sunday. For the Steelers, they hope that those things that they need can happen. But no matter what happens, they should be proud with the late season fight they have given.
