In 2013, the San Francisco 49ers suffered a very difficult finish against the Baltimore Ravens in the Super Bowl for a team that looked destined to win it all. Now it is 2014, and the 49ers are back in the dance with Colin Kaepernick leading them at quarterback once more.
The big question going into this season’s playoffs is can Kaepernick lead the 49ers to Super Bowl XLVIII?
Kaepernick’s season was like a roller coaster. He started off great against the Green Bay Packers in Week 1. This made many people feel that the 49ers were the team to beat. However, with Michael Crabtree and Mario Manningham both on injured reserve, the 49ers slowly became a one-dimensional team and the other teams in the NFL exploited it.
These injuries caused Kaepernick to force the football and make plays all himself, causing turnovers and terrible passes that did not look like the QB everyone knew last season.
This was all going on while former 49ers quarterback Alex Smith was leading his new team the Kansas City Chiefs to one of the best records in the NFL. However, players began to return to the 49ers and Kaepernick returned to form. HE lead the 49ers to a 6-0 record down the stretch and almost earned his team a first-round bye in the playoffs for a second year in a row.
The 49ers are one of the hottest teams going into this season’s playoffs and is a team that no one wants to play, even at their own home field. Can he lead his team to the Super Bowl this season? The answer is most certainly yes!
Think about it. He did it last season when he only started about half of the regular season games for the 49ers. He defeated Aaron Rodgers and the Packers last season, who will be without Clay Matthews for their game against the 49ers. He defeated a dominant Atlanta Falcons team on the road last year and had to make a huge comeback to do it. Finally, he was a completion away from giving the 49ers their sixth Super Bowl title last season.
Without a doubt, Kaepernick has a great chance to lead his team to another Super Bowl title. If you are a betting kind of person, I certainly would not go against Kaepernick and the 49ers. He has a new weapon in Anquan Boldin, his favorite receiver Michael Crabtree back and has the defense again to back him up. Look for the 49ers to be in Super Bowl XLVIII and for Kaepernick to show that he is a one of the best quarterbacks in the clutch.
