San Diego Chargers Looking to Keep Super Bowl Streak Involving Philadelphia Eagles Schedule Alive

(Kirby Lee/USA Today Sports)

Do you believe in destiny? Well, if you didn’t believe in destiny before, you may want to re-consider your thoughts after the San Diego Chargers pulled off the shocking 27-10 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday to setup a Divisional Round matchup against the Denver Broncos next weekend.

Despite ending the season on a four-game winning streak, the Chargers entered Sunday’s game against the Bengals as underdogs considering Andy Dalton and company finished with an 8-0 record at home. Instead, San Diego showed the football world why they deserve to be in the postseason with a big win on the road–leading everyone to believe they may be a team of destiny thanks to an interesting theory established over the last couple of years due to the Philadelphia Eagles schedule.

The joke at the beginning of the season was the Chargers were going to win Super Bowl XLVIII since the previous four Super Bowl winners (New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers, New York Giants, and Baltimore Ravens) all faced the Eagles in their home opener at Lincoln Financial Field at the beginning of the season. With San Diego being Philadelphia’s first home opponent in Week 2, will history repeat itself?

There’s still plenty of time left in the playoffs, but when considering that Peyton Manning is 0-2 against the Chargers in his playoff career–this theory doesn’t seem so crazy after all. San Diego is playing their best football at the right time–so keep an eye on Philip Rivers and company over the next few weeks to see if they can keep this streak of the Eagles schedule alive for the fifth-straight season.
