Cam Newton Won’t Forget Colin Kaepernick Mocking Him

Sam Sharpe-USA TODAY Sports

Every time Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton scores a touchdown, he celebrates by doing what has been called the “Superman” pose. Meanwhile, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick celebrates a score by kissing his flexed bicep. On Sunday, Kaepernick decided to switch it up in a move that won’t soon be forgotten by Newton.

In the third quarter of the NFC Divisional playoff game between the Panthers and 49ers, Kaepernick helped extend San Francisco’s lead by scoring on a four-yard touchdown run. After the touchdown, he imitated Newton’s “Superman” pose and then followed with buttoning up his shirt and kissing his bicep, which didn’t sit well with the Carolina fans or players.

“I think you know the answer,” Kaepernick said in his postgame press conference when he was asked about the celebration and who it was referring to.

It was a move that really didn’t surprise anyone considering the quarterback continuously rubs opponents the wrong way. Of course, what he does during games isn’t much different of what a majority of other players around the league do.

Newton didn’t appear too happy about what Kaepernick did. However, he wasn’t able to do much about it on the field. It seems he will have to wait until next season to get his revenge, if the teams do indeed meet again.

“It’s not the first nor the last time somebody does that,” Newton said before he left his press conference, according to ESPN.

He then added, “I still won’t forget it.”

The 49ers will play the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship on Sunday.

Watch Panthers' OT Michael Oher Slide On Levi's Stadium Turf

The condition of the turf at Levi's Stadium during Super Bowl 50 is a popular topic, and for one play Carolina Panthers' left tackle Michael Oher looked like he was on an ice rink as he protected Cam Newton's blind side.

Watch Cam Newton Put His Own Interests Above The Team

Millions of things have been said about Cam Newton, but this one instance in particular fires me up as a Carolina Panthers fan. With the score 16-10 Broncos, Von Miller knocks the ball out of Newton's hands which leads to a mad scramble. Newton has the opportunity to jump on the ball in the pile, but he decides to back away to protect himself from injury. In a one-possession game in the Super Bowl, Newton should've sacrificed every limb he has to get that ball back for his team, and it's extremely unnerving to me as a fan that he didn't jump in there.
