Previewing AFC Championship Tickets

By Greg Cohen

After 19 weeks of football and trying to figure out the top teams in the league, a spot in the Super Bowl will be determined by a meeting between Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. The Denver Broncos and New England Patriots were the two best teams in the AFC over the course of the regular season, so it’s fitting they are the two teams facing off in the AFC Championship Game. These two teams faced each other during the regular season, which was promoted as Manning-Brady XIV like a boxing match. The Patriots were able to pull out a 34-31 win in overtime with the game played at Gillette Stadium. Tickets for that game averaged $391 on the secondary market, but even the average price of a Patriots home game doesn’t come close to the price of Broncos playoff tickets.

The average price for this matchup is $738.30, coming in as the most expensive average AFC Championship tickets since at least 2010 when TiqIQ started keeping data. No AFC Championship Game over the past four seasons has eclipsed $550, with none coming close to the $730 average price for this weekend. While the average price of this game is significantly higher than the regular season meeting between these two teams, the get-in price is not much different. The Week 12 get-in price was $179 and that priced has only increased to $191 for this game.

Since that Week 12 meeting, Manning went on to break the single-season records for passing touchdowns and passing yards. The Broncos finished the season 13-3 with Manning most likely on his way to his record fifth MVP Award. The Patriots finished 12-4, but did not seem to have as easy of a time as Denver in getting a first-round playoff bye. Brady spent a majority of the season playing without key contributors on offense, but the team as a whole was able to pull together to remain one of the best teams in the conference.

Manning and Brady have faced off so many times before, almost a regular season worth of games, any fan wanting to buy a ticket knows it will be an exciting contest. There’s more to this game between these two quarterbacks, but the involvement of both of these players will ensure this game is worth the price of admission.
