Is there potential that the Washington Redskins could be on HBO’s Hard Knocks ? This would be big if it happened.
Hard Knocks is a series that takes a detailed, behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of an NFL team.
According to Redskins.com, new head coach Jay Gruden did not say yes, but he didn’t say no either. According to Gruden, “I don’t know yet, I would have to talk that over with [Redskins general manager] Bruce [Allen] and [Redskins owner] Dan [Snyder].”
He added, “I would prefer not to have it, but if the NFL forced our hand, it wouldn’t be the end of the world.”
If the Redskins did appear on the show, it would be more of a distraction rather than a benefit. Let’s face the facts: When it comes to the Redskins, they’re able to generate enough attention on themselves that doesn’t require a Reality TV show. I doubt we’ll see anything different we do not read in the news already.
But I do think Gruden would love it.
To follow the reign of Mike Shanahan, rebuilding a team that watched all expectations of a promising year go down in flames, and working with Robert Griffin III, a quarterback that carries flair, promise and the expectation of fans and the front office? Yeah, this would get high ratings.
However, there are far more teams that would be more attractive to Hard Knocks, so the Redskins would have to show interest to get their chance. That’s something I’m not expecting to happen anytime soon. There’s more important things to be concerned about, especially when you finish a season 3-13.
Drama, more drama, followed with sighs and an occasional “Are you kidding me ?” Yep, that would sum up a Redskins’ segment of Hard Knocks.
I have to admit, though — I would watch it.
