5 Reasons Why You Should Boycott the 2014 Pro Bowl

The big game is almost here. No, not the Super Bowl, the Pro Bowl. That's right, the annual football exhibition game is upon us and fans simply cannot wait until Sunday night. Wait, all of that, except the exact opposite.

Is anyone really looking forward to the Pro Bowl? That's the question I can't get past, because I've yet to hear a single person in my lifetime say that they're looking forward to the NFL's All-Star game. You hear it about the NBA and MLB, but never in regards to the NFL and the Pro Bowl (stupid name).

Clearly, the NFL realizes that no one cares about the Pro Bowl. That's why the league made changes to this year's format and why they moved the game to a different date a couple years back. Now, they ram the Pro Bowl down our throats between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl. But still, I could give a rip about the action on the field.

But even though the Pro Bowl is completely worthless, it sill somehow draws decent ratings. I guess you can chalk it up to 'people will watch anything NFL-related' but I still don't get it.

Some are speculating that this year could be the last year of the Pro Bowl if fan interest doesn't improve. We can only hope that's the case. So that's why I decided to create a list of reasons to avoid watching the NFL's annual ASG. Here are five reasons why you should boycott the 2014 Pro Bowl:

The New Format

Don't encourage the NFL. Just because they draft the teams now, doesn't mean you should tune in. It's going to be the same old crap, just with Deion Sanders and Jerry Rice on the sidelines.

Rosters Are Lacking True Pro Bowlers

It seems like about half of the players selected to the Pro Bowl, actually play in the Pro Bowl. Of the eight 49ers that were selected, seven are declining to go to Hawaii. Seven.

No Skills Competitions

The NFL used to have skills competitions back in the day, but they were discontinued in 2007. It's time they bring some sort of sideshow back to Pro Bowl weekend. Look at the interest the Slam Dunk Contest gets in the NBA. It just shows that All-Star games are about much more than the actual game itself.

Players Don't Want to Be There

For the most part, you get the feeling that players want nothing to do with the Pro Bowl. The trip to Hawaii must be nice, but let's be honest, nearly every NFL player can afford that trip on their own.

It's a Football Exhibition Game, For Crying Out Loud!

Two things that simply don't go together? Exhibition games and football. No one wants to tackle anybody, no one wants to get hurt, no one wants to play another game after their season is over. The Pro Bowl is just a stupid concept, in general.

Do your part, don't tune in. Show the NFL that the Pro Bowl needs to go away for good.
