Ben Roethlisberger has made no bones about his WWE fandom in the past. In fact, the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback even guest hosted an episode of Monday Night Raw back in 2009. Big Ben found himself in the middle of the ring on that night, giving the ‘suck it’ sign with Shawn Michaels and Triple H. But since then, Roethlisberger has been absent from WWE television. That was until last night when he made an appearance at the Royal Rumble.
Big Ben was spotted sitting near the front row at the Consol Energy Center on Sunday night in Pittsburgh. The star QB decided to take in a night of WWE action and then he apparently headed back stage following the show.
Above is a picture snapped by Stephanie McMahon. It of course features Roethlisberger, Michaels and Ric Flair. Both Michaels and Flair were in attendance because they were guest analysts on the pre-show.
WWE always jumps at any opportunity to cross-promote and to bring in stars from other areas of sports and entertainment.
On a side note, the Pittsburgh crowd was hot on Sunday night and that would be putting it lightly. The energy they produced was mostly of a positive nature until the WWE title bout, in which they booed nearly the entire time. The same could be said for the Rumble match, as the crowd enjoyed itself until the end when it realized that Daniel Bryan would not be entering. Never before has the Rumble winner gotten so overshadowed by boos from the crowd.
I’m sure Big Ben can tell Batista all about how hard fans in the Steel City can be on stars.
