Chris Johnson’s Impending Knee Surgery A Major Red Flag To NFL Teams?
Chris Johnson isn’t the crazy electric running back that he once was. In fact, the days of comparing Johnson to the likes of Barry Sanders and Gale Sayers are long gone. Instead, the shifty speedster is known as a shooting star, who has burned out and doesn’t have much left in the tank. With that being said, it’s becoming more and more likely that the Tennessee Titans will release Johnson this offseason.
Everyone knows about Johnson’s massive six-year $55 million contract that he signed in 2011. And of course the Titans would be foolish to keep the running back in town if he’s not willing to take a pay cut. However, one very interesting wrinkle to this case that not many NFL fans know about is the health status of Johnson. In Week 3, Johnson reportedly suffered a torn meniscus, which is an injury that requires surgery and a four-to-six week rehab.
Rather than have the procedure done during the regular season, Johnson decided to toughen it out and wait until after the year — in six seasons at the NFL level Johnson missed just one game and it came in his rookie campaign.
Furthermore, Johnson has given possible suitors just another reason to look the other way. Sure, Johnson could pop off for 200 yards and two scores any given Sunday, yet he’s also prone to a five-game streak of under 60 yards and zero touchdowns. Thankfully, the NFL and its fans are just a few months away from what should be an interesting Johnson bidding war.
