The NFL Combine begins in less than a week, and every NFL team is doing their research on all the talent that will be gathering in Indianapolis. Players are excited for the opportunity to showcase their ability and improve their draft stock. The players also know that a bad performance at the Combine can send them plummeting down teams’ draft boards.
The Dallas Cowboys cannot afford to only focus on one position at the Combine. With numerous needs all over their roster, they must leave no stone unturned. With so many players and positions, it can be tough for the fans to figure out who they should be paying the most attention to. That is why I am identifying one player at each position for Cowboys fans to watch at the Combine. Here we are focusing on the CB position.
The Cowboys have spent a lot of money and drafts picks on the CB position in the past few years, but the team has continued to struggle against the pass. With the NFL being more pass oriented than ever before, it is important to have multiple CBs on your roster.
The CB that I believe would be a great fit with the Cowboys is Jason Verrett from TCU. In his last two seasons with TCU, Verrett led the nation with 38 pass breakups and he also had eight interceptions. Despite only standing 5-foot-10 and weighing 176 pounds, Verrett is not afraid to get physical with bigger WRs. Most scouts expect him to go somewhere in the second round of the NFL Draft.
Even though the Cowboys have more pressing needs than CB, I still believe Dallas should consider Verrett in the second round. If he were to slip to the third round due to his lack of size then he would be a steal for Dallas. The Cowboys have CBs, but they rarely make game-changing plays. Verrett makes big plays, and that is why the Cowboys and their fans must watch him at the Combine.
