5 Jacksonville Jaguars Who Mean The Most To The Team’s Future
Most Important Players Of The Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars are by no means a potential powerhouse or a dynasty in the making. The last time fans of the Jaguars were able to brag about a winning season was back in 2007, and it may take another few years until the fans have something to be excited about.
If the Jaguars are able to draft Johnny Manziel, there are current players on the team who will greatly benefit from the upgrade at quarterback. After ranking 22nd in passing yards and 31st in rushing yards, the need for improvement at quarterback and a more consistent rushing attack will be one of the biggest challenges in Jacksonville. If Manziel is drafted, it is difficult to predict what players he will build a rapport with, but he does have a few options at his disposal.
The Jaguars' defense will need to bring in some new players through the draft or free agency. The defense finished the year ranking 26th against the pass and 29th against the run. While there are not really any household names on the defense for Jacksonville, there are a few players who are important to the future success of the organization.
The most difficult aspect of improving for Jacksonville is that the team needs to upgrade in so many aspects of the game. A consistent quarterback, reliable and healthy receivers, protection for the quarterback, creating turnovers on defense, containing a rushing attack and preventing an opponent from scoring so many points are just a small list of things that the Jaguars need to work on.
Even with these issues, there are some very important players on this team who can help Jacksonville reach a winning season.
Here are five Jacksonville Jaguars who mean the most to the team's future.
5. Ace Sanders
You may not think that 5-foot-7 Ace Sanders would be considered an important part of the Jaguars' future, but he showed flashes of being an explosive playmaker throughout the season. Sanders is a big threat because of his ability to return the ball, rush the ball, and catch passes. If a new quarterback can get Sanders more involved, this triple-threat player has a very bright future.
4. Cecil Shorts III
Cecil Shorts III has not finished a complete season in his NFL career, but he is an important part of this Jacksonville team. At 6-feet tall, 193 pounds, Shorts provides a nice combination of speed and strength. His best season was in 2012 with 979 receiving yards and seven receiving touchdowns in 14 games. With limited options, Shorts is a very important part of this offense.
3. Luke Joeckel
Luke Joeckel was drafted in 2013 to help create space for the running game and protect his quarterback, but the offensive tackle was injured after only playing in five games. A healthy Joeckel is one of the most important players on the Jaguars.
2. Paul Posluszny
I wouldn't state that Paul Posluszny is one of the best kept secrets in the NFL, but he is not a household name for the average football fan. Posluszny is the focal point of the Jacksonville defense, and he recorded 161 total tackles, three sacks, two interceptions and returned an interception for a touchdown in the 2013 season.
1. Justin Blackmon
In only four games in the 2013 season, Justin Blackmon had 415 receiving yards, one receiving touchdown and two games of 100 receiving yards or more. Despite all of the issues Blackmon has had, the Jaguars need to try to do everything possible to keep this talent. A Johnny Manziel and Blackmon combination sounds as lethal as Tom Brady and Wes Welker.
