The 2014 NFL Draft is absolutely filled to the brim with some of the best wide receivers coming out of the college scene in quite some time. This past weekend in Indianapolis, the best of the best took part of the NFL Combine to showcase their talents to representatives and scouts of every major NFL team in attendance.
Lots of notes were taken as all participants took part in several physical and athletic tests to determine just how much of an impact they will have as they enter the biggest sports league in the world. It comes as no surprise that the New York Jets are in desperate need for a new top quality wide receiver after the lackluster performances of Jeremy Kerley (just three TDs), Santonio Holmes (a disappointing one TD) and David Nelson (two TDs).
This time around, they’re looking to draft a player so talented that he can finally be the long-term answer the Jets have been waiting for to be an anchor at the position.
There should be a nice core of wide receivers available for the Jets to pick in the first round. With the 18th pick, there is one particular player that if available, should be able to address this main need the Jets have and immediately make an impact. Wide receiver Jordan Matthews would fit the mold that will please what every single die-hard Jets fan wants at that side of the football.
The 6-foot-3 college football star out of Vanderbilt came into the NFL Combine with the biggest hands of any receiver present at 10.3 inches. Not only is he pretty fast with his route running, he is the all-time leading receiver in the SEC. In addition to an incredible talent showcase, the Jets held a private interview with Matthews to further see if he is the guy they plan to hand a jersey to on May 8.
Matthews has all the attributes of a star in the making who could easily make a huge impact with the Jets.
