The Philadelphia Eagles are in the midst of some serious wide receiver evaluations. After rebounding in 2013 to win the NFC East, the Eagles are back on the right track. However, without the proper pass-catchers in place, the team is unlikely to take the next step. The big question in Philly for the last several weeks has been whether the team should re-sign Riley Cooper or Jeremy Maclin.
Most fans and analysts have been expecting the Eagles to work out a deal with Maclin over Cooper, simply because he has a higher ceiling at the WR position. But now the offseason picture has become a little more clear with the latest batch of internet rumors.
Philadelphia is reportedly close to signing Cooper to a multi-year extension. On top of that, the team is also expected to work out a new deal for Maclin. So the questions and debates of ‘one guy or the other’, could quickly become a thing of the past. If you’re an Eagles fan, that’s probably the news you were hoping for.
Of course, there’s always going to be a side note when talking about Cooper. The WR angered many across the country last summer when he was caught on camera using the n-word. Many people thought he’d never play in the NFL again, but here we are not even a year later and he’s about to get some serious job and financial security. I guess it just goes to show how quickly people can forgive and forget.
