2014 NFL Draft: San Diego State RB Adam Muema Could Sign With San Diego Chargers
News over the weekend indicated that San Diego State product Adam Muema had left abruptly, missing the combine’s workouts and measurements while citing religious reasons. The religious reasons weren’t petty because Muema revealed he heard voices telling him to not work out and trust that the Seattle Seahawks would be calling Muema on draft day.
Would it be crazier to think that Muema is just playing the world and he really would love to be a part of the San Diego Chargers?
Though missing out at the combine, the San Diego State product plans to participate in San Diego State’s pro-day, barring another prophecy. I could imagine scouts solely focusing on the defense and brushing off Muema obviously citing purely logical reasons to not care for his prophecies. But the Chargers have nothing to lose if they gamble on Muema.
If the Chargers waste a late-round pick on a piece of work like Muema, then they need to get their priorities straight. Muema’s draft stock fell off the earth, much like his current whereabouts, so he could be end up like other 20-somethings—underemployed.
Based on a comparison of stats between Muema and Ryan Mathews’ college stats there are similarities.
534 attempts, 3280 rushing yards, 39 rush TDs
535, attempts, 2955 rushing yards, 34 rush TDs
Player A is Mathews while player B is Muema. Mathews is going to get hurt again this season. Muema could be a piece that picks up the load Mathews leaves behind. Realistically, don’t expect Tom Telesco extending an invite to camp. He’s already got a headache balancing the talent and budget for 2014.
