The 5 Biggest Free Agency Rumors Surrounding the Seattle Seahawks

After winning Super Bowl XLVIII, the Seattle Seahawks are currently at the top of the NFL universe. However, Seattle cannot rest on their laurels. Winning one championship is difficult, but repeating can be even harder. Seattle has a great young roster and will spend the offseason attempting to get even better. Seattle has built the core of their team thru the draft, but they have also had some nice free agent signings.

When Pete Carroll was hired, Seattle was a team that needed a complete makeover and was not a prime free agent destination. That is not the case anymore, though. After winning a Super Bowl, free agents will be seeking out the Seahawks, and it is likely they will take less money for a shot at a championship.

Seattle does not have as much cap space as a lot of other teams, so they will have to spend wisely. Another problem that Seattle faces is that they have a lot of their own free agents, including: Michael Bennett, Sidney Rice, Golden Tate, Walter Thurmond and Steven Hauschka. Seattle will not have enough cap space to sign them all.

The good news is that Seattle has drafted so well that they have backup players currently on their roster who are ready to step up and start if needed. There is also no reason to think that Seattle will not draft a few more starters in the draft this year.

With that said, Seattle will still want to re-sign some of their own free agents and perhaps add a few from outside the organization. Who might be headed to the great northwest to join the Super Bowl champions? Here is a list of the five biggest free agent rumors surrounding the Seahawks.

Kickers do not get a lot of respect in the NFL, but Steven Hauschka is one of the better ones. I think Seattle will find a way to keep him, but there are a lot of teams that would love to have a kicker as consistent as Hauschka.

Golden Tate had a great year for the Seahawks and now has the opportunity to reap the benefits. Tate will likely have to decide which is more important: the money or staying with a team that has a chance to be a dynasty?

3. Mutual Interest Between Seattle and Jermichael Finley

Jermichael Finley is coming off a spinal injury that almost ended his career. He could be a risky signing, but he probably will not cost much. He would give Seattle another weapon which could pay off big.

2. Mutual Interest Between Seattle and Jared Allen

Jared Allen is going to be 32 when the 2014 season begins, but he is still very productive. He had 12 sacks last season with the Minnesota Vikings and is reportedly looking to sign with a Super Bowl contender. If that is the case, Seattle could be the perfect place for him.

1. Could Seattle Pay the Price to get Jimmy Graham?

Jimmy Graham, Free Agency

Let me start by saying that this is extremely unlikely to happen, but it is fun to think about. Seattle could offer Jimmy Graham a contract and the New Orleans Saints would have an opportunity to match it. If the Saints decided not to match it, Seattle would owe the Saints two first-round draft picks. That is a lot to give up, but I believe it would be worth it to get a player like Graham.
