The 5 Biggest Free Agency Rumors Surrounding the Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens enter the free agency period in a unique position with over million dollars to spend, the 13th most in the NFL. However, there are plenty of question marks with plenty of their own players set to hit the market.

Some of the biggest names include Eugene Monroe, Daryl Smith and Arthur Jones. Will they be able to re-sign them or will they let them walk? I make my predictions in this slideshow.

With Matt Elam moving to the strong safety position, the Ravens will be in play for a free safety. The options in the draft are underwhelming, so I expect them to address the position in free agency. Keep your eye on Chris Clemons. He is a solid player who excels in pass coverage, allowing only 0.20 yards per coverage snap last season, the best in the NFL. He could be signed for a modest multi-year deal.

There are quiet rumblings that the Ravens will swoop in and pick up Julian Edelman. It might sound crazy, but after not tendering Tandon Doss and with Jacoby Jones inclined to test the market, it’s hard not to connect the dots here. Edelman would do very well in Baltimore. Keep your eye on this.

According to Pro Football Focus, Jones was the 12th-best 3-4 defensive end in the NFL. He has quite a few teams interested in him and he is expected to hit the market and receive a lucrative deal. I would not expect Jones back with the Ravens in 2014.

Smith came from the Jacksonville Jaguars last year after Dannell Ellerbe left for the Miami Dolphins. Smith did a solid job for the Ravens and might get a few suitors on the open market. The Ravens want to keep him though, and he is one of their top priorities.

Monroe was the hottest name on the free agent market but for some reason, many teams have backed away from him. Was it the price tag or was it something else? Monroe has been inconsistent at times, but he looks like he could be an elite LT. With the other left tackles expected to go elsewhere, expect Monroe to end up back in Baltimore.
