NFL free agency is officially underway, and teams are in a scramble to pick players up before another team does. With that said, one team that isn't expected to be major free agency players this year, the Denver Broncos, actually have a good history with free agency in the past. Ladies and gentlemen, in celebration of free agency, here's a look at the five biggest signings in Denver Broncos history.
Although he has only spent one season with the Broncos, Wes Welker is still one of the biggest free agent signings the franchise has ever had. Not only did they weaken the rival Patriots with the acquisition of Welker, but they also added a fantastic slot receiver.
Undrafted free agents count, right? Although he was passed over by every NFL team in the 1994 NFL draft, Rod Smith made a huge impact with the Broncos after the team signed him after the draft.
Signed as a free agent in 2009, Brian Dawkins makes this list as much for his big personality as he does because of his impact on the team’s defense. Dawkins was an emotional leader, and a huge pickup for the Broncos.
In 2003, the Broncos signed Jake Plummer in the hopes he would be an average starter for them. Although Plummer wasn't a Hall of Famer during his time with the team, he was one of the better quarterbacks in team history.
This one is as obvious as they come. It’s largely because of Peyton Manning that we view the Broncos as one of the best teams in the league, and the reasons why he is the biggest free agent signing in Broncos history are obvious.
