Eugene Monroe isn’t going anywhere. The Baltimore Ravens have ponied up the money and re-signed the talented offensive tackle. In total, Monroe will make $37.5 million over five years. If you’re a Ravens fan, you can now breath a sigh of relief.
It didn’t seem likely that Monroe was going to leave town, but we all know how sought after top-tier left tackles are. Most considered Monroe to be the second best LT available (behind Branden Albert), so it just didn’t make any sense for the Ravens not to open up their checkbook and pay the man. If you can get a proven left tackle on your offensive line, you have to pull the trigger.
Luckily for the Ravens, Monroe wasn’t asking for an exorbitant amount of money. He’s now simply getting paid like the caliber of player that he is.
The attention in Baltimore will now turn to what the team does next to better its offense. It seems pretty clear that the Ravens will sign a free agent wide receiver, or that they’ll maybe even trade for one. Steve Smith has been linked to Baltimore via a trade and you can’t rule out veteran guys like Santonio Holmes signing on.
The nucleus of the Ravens offense is solid. There’s a good base in place, it’s now a matter of adding some more playmakers to the mix. For now, fans should have smiles on their faces knowing that Joe Flacco‘s blindside will be protected consistently for the next five years.
