New York Jets Rumors: Is Darrelle Revis On His Way Back to New York?

Darrelle Revis Rumors

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The biggest news surrounding the New York Jets last offseason was how the Darrelle Revis saga would end. This year with loads of cap space the Jets are expected to make some big moves. But could one of those big moves be bringing back Revis island?

The Jets have already missed out on the big cornerback they were after. Alterruan Verner is heading to Revis’ current team the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Clearly that means the Buccaneers are going to cut Revis because they can’t find a team to trade with.

But do the Jets really want Revis back? It’s no secret that the prow bowl corner doesn’t get along with the Jets’ brass. Revis has held out two times with Jets and that rubbed owner Woody Johnson the wrong way. John Idzik was hired last summer as the general manager and his job was to gut the roster. The main goal he had was to trade Revis and get some quality assets in return. There was a lot of hostility between the two camps but Idzik did his job and got rid of Revis.

Looking back on it that trade could be one of the best ever from  the Jets’ point of view. They got a first round pick that turned out to be Sheldon Richardson, the 2013 defensive rookie of the year, and a conditional pick for this season. But now that there is a new regime in Tampa, Revis is almost certainly gone by 4:00 P.M. tomorrow. The Buccaneers want him gone and are prepared to cut him.

In my opinion the Jets should try to get the pro bowl corner back with them. Even though he didn’t have a great year last year, he can still be one of the best corners in the league. He will almost certainly have to take a pay cut if he wants to come back though. He is a big fan of Rex Ryan, but Ryan won’t be able to convince Idzik to pay him whatever he wants.

If Revis is cut there will be a plethora of teams seeking his services. The Jets should try to go after their former friend. He can still be one of the best and will be looking to prove something after such a disastrous 2013.
