The Houston Texans have been rather quiet during the 2014 NFL free agency thus far, which means they are planning to do a lot of damage in the draft. With the first overall selection, the Texans will have plenty of pressure to deliver. Check out five updated scenarios for Houston and their No. overall pick.

It would be nice if the Texans had the luxury to take an outside pass rusher to team up with J.J. Watt. Unfortunately, Houston simply has far too many glaring needs to do so. Regardless, if they did decide to go with a defensive threat, Khalil Mack would be the right choice. He has the potential to be an immediate difference maker in the pass-rush game, while he also has the ability to drop back into coverage.

4. Johnny Manziel QB

Some believe the Texans will select Johnny Manziel No. 1 overall, but I’m not one those people. Nonetheless, he’s someone Houston will have their eye on and it’s nearly a guarantee they will select a quarterback in with the first overall pick. Manziel lacks the height and ideal build for the position. However, he does have a strong arm, can move around in the pocket and has the natural instincts that are required to play quarterback.

3. Teddy Bridgewater QB

Another quarterback, Teddy Bridgewater is the safe choice at the position. He’s by far the most accurate signal caller in the draft and he has the ability to make covered wide receivers seem open. Not to mention, he played in a pro-style offense at Louisville, which makes him an ideal candidate to hit the ground running in year one. His elite accuracy mixed with his efficient movements makes him a very dangerous quarterback.

2. Jadeveon Clowney DE

The most talented player in the draft is Jadeveon Clowney. The Texans will have a field day trying to decide between a top-notch asset on defense or a potential franchise quarterback. The only reason Houston doesn’t take Clowney No. 1 overall is because of their dire need for a promising signal caller. He’s explosive off the edge, fast and his presence alone will make everyone else get better. The duo of him and Watt would be devastating.

1. Blake Bortles QB

Houston should select quarterback Blake Bortles with the first overall pick. He has the NFL-build to play the position, he’s athletic and he has a very strong arm. The Texans can’t afford to miss out on a solid signal caller, even at the risk of passing on Clowney. Several great pieces are necessary to have success in the NFL, but only the teams with outstanding quarterbacks reach the Super Bowl. Bortles has the potential to be that one day.
