Updated 1st Round Scenarios for Jacksonville Jaguars After Free Agency

Jacksonville Jaguars NFL Draft

The Jacksonville Jaguars can’t afford to botch up the third overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Whether it’s a playmaker or a quarterback, the Jaguars must take the best available player with the hope that he will change the fate of the franchise. The Jaguars have made some noise in free agency, but it’s not enough to affect who they select in the first round.

Sammy Watkins

It would be a bold move for Jacksonville to take a wide receiver with their first selection in the draft. However, Sammy Watkins has the potential to become a No. 1 wide receiver in a very short time period. For that reason, he’s someone the Jaguars should at least consider.

4. Johnny Manziel QB

The more likely direction the Jaguars should head in is quarterback. The severe lack of a quality signal caller for several years has almost put the franchise down and out. They need someone under center who is capable of taking the team to great heights. Johnny Manziel is undersized, but he’s an outstanding leader who knows what it’s like to put the team on his back.

3. Teddy Bridgewater QB

Teddy Bridgewater

Teddy Bridgewater is by far the most accurate signal caller in the draft and he has the ability to make covered wide receivers seem open. His experience playing in a pro-style offense at Louisville has prepared him to make immediate strides at the next level. He’s efficient, athletic and deadly accurate, which is everything a present day quarterback needs in order to be effective.

2. Blake Bortles QB

Blake Bortles

There’s a good chance Blake Bortles will fall to Jacksonville, and if he does, the Jaguars better pounce. Bortles has the NFL-build to play the position and he’s athletic. Bortles doesn’t have the strongest arm among quarterbacks in the draft, but he does have the ability to make every throw on the field. He’s a big-time competitor who is destined to lead a team in the NFL.

Jadeveon Clowney

If Jadeveon Clowney somehow makes it past the first two picks, the Jaguars should consider themselves blessed. Clowney has the ability to put Jacksonville back on the map. He’s explosive off the edge, fast and his presence alone will make everyone else better. More importantly, he’s the most talented player in the draft. He would be an immediate difference maker for the Jaguars, which is something they have missed for a long time.
