The Indianapolis Colts are one of the oldest franchises in the NFL. Having been a part of the league since 1953, when they were first known as the Baltimore Colts, this has been a franchise that has dealt with multiple QB eras, four championships, and relocation.

Here are five Colts players added by free agency that have helped the franchise get to where they are today.

While LaRon Landry has not been with the Colts for a long time, he has helped the defense improve. After playing for the New York Jets and Washington Redskins, Landry came to the Colts and have helped the franchise succeed as far as their secondary is concerned.

Coming to the Colts from the Baltimore Ravens, Brandon Stokley was the slot guy before Wes Welker emerged. He was one of the wideouts that helped Manning break the passing touchdown record the first time as he caught the record breaking touchdown in 2004. He was the player that perhaps introduced the slot receiver.

Before he was the coach of the San Francisco 49ers, Jim Harbaugh was a quarterback in the league for a few years. He came to Indy by free agency after playing for the Chicago Bears. In fact, it was Harbaugh who was the last quarterback to play for the Colts before Manning took over. He had quite the track record as during the 1995 season as he was voted to the Pro Bowl and named Comeback Player of the Year.

One of the most famous kickers in the league, Vinatieri came from the New England Patriots after winning three Super Bowls with the team in which his kicks were responsible for two of the wins. He made an impact as he helped the Colts win the Super Bowl in his first season with the team, which marked his fourth Super Bowl ring.

One of the most famous quarterbacks to ever play for the Colts, Johnny Unitas was a free agent before his career kicked off when the Pittsburgh Steelers cut him as the odd man out of three quarterback spots. They would regret that move as Unitas signed with the Colts and led the team to three different titles, including the franchise's first Super Bowl title. He is now enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
