Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Updated First Round Scenarios

Lovie Smith

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had a disappointing 2013, finishing 4-12. They hired a new coach in Lovie Smith and have been busy in free agency. Tampa Bay is looking to turn things around quickly. In order to do that, they will need to have a good draft. In the first round, Tampa Bay has the No. 7 overall pick. Here are five scenarios that could play out for the Buccaneers.

5. Draft an Offensive Lineman

Tampa Bay went out and signed QB Josh McCown in free agency, and it is possible that they would want to upgrade the offensive line in front of him. The top two linemen in the draft are Jake Matthews and Greg Robinson. Either could be tempting if they fall to No. 7.

4. Draft Anthony Barr

New coach Lovie Smith loves defense, and one position Tampa Bay could use an upgrade in is at LB. Anthony Barr is the second ranked LB in this draft and could be an intriguing option.

3. Draft Khalil Mack

Khalil Mack is the top overall LB in this draft. Many believe he will be gone before pick No. 7, but if he is there, I would not be surprised to see Lovie jump at the chance to get him.

2. Draft MiKe Evans

Tampa Bay could definitely use a WR to line up opposite of Vincent Jackson. Mike Evans has a lot of the same traits as Jackson. Both are tall WRs, making them great red zone targets. McCown had great success in Chicago throwing to tall WRs Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery. I am sure he would love to have the same type of combo in Tampa Bay.

1. Draft Sammy Watkins

Tampa could decide that they need more of a speed guy since they already have a big possession-type WR. If that is the case, they would love to see Sammy Watkins fall to No. 7. Watkins has speed to burn and could be a great complement to Jackson.
