Denver Broncos’ Updated First-Round Scenarios

John Fox

Losing the Super Bowl has left a bad taste in the mouth of the Denver Broncos, and they are determined not to let it happen again. Denver has been the biggest spender in free agency so far this offseason, and now they turn their attention toward the NFL Draft. Denver has the No. 31 overall pick in the first round. Here are five scenarios that could play out for Denver in the first round.

5. Draft Kony Ealy

Denver has added big names to their defense via free agency, and they could look to continue that in the draft. Kony Ealy is a great pass rushing DE who could learn from veterans like DeMarcus Ware and Von Miller.

4. Draft Jason Verrett

Denver added Aqib Talib in free agency, but they could look to upgrade their secondary even more by drafting Jason Verrett. Verrett is a guy I believe can start right away in the NFL and would be a nice addition to the Broncos.

3. Draft Ryan Shazier

Denver could look to add depth to their linebacker group. If they do, one option could be Ryan Shazier of Ohio State. Shazier is a guy who can play both the run and the pass. He was the leading tackler for Ohio State with 143 tackles in 2013.

2. Draft Louis Nix

Denver has added pass rushers in free agency, but they could still use a big body in the middle of the line to help against the run. One guy they could add is Louis Nix of Notre Dame. Nix is 6-foot-2 and 331 pounds, and he could help stop up the middle of the line.

1. Draft Stephon Tuitt

If Nix is not available, Denver might want to look at his teammate Stephon Tuitt. Tuitt is 6-foot-5 and 304 pounds, and much like Nix, he would be a run stuffer in the middle of the Broncos’ line.
